    International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development is an international, peer reviewed journal, publishing high-quality, original research. Please see the journal’s Aims & Scope for information about its focus and peer-review policy.

    Please note that this journal only publishes manuscripts in English.



    Peer review

    Sustainable Building Research Center and Innovative Durable Building and Infrastructure Research Center is committed to peer-review integrity and upholding the highest standards of review. Once your paper has been assessed for suitability by the editor, it will then be double blind peer-reviewed by anonymous expert referees.     Preparing your paper


    Structure

    Manuscripts should be compiled in the following order: title page; abstract; keywords; main text; acknowledgements; references; appendices (as appropriate); table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages); figure caption(s) (as a list).


    Word limits

    Please include a word count for your paper.

    A typical manuscript for this journal should be no more than 10000; this limit does not include tables, references, figure captions, footnotes, endnotes.


    Style guidelines

    Please refer to the following style guidelines when preparing your paper, rather than any published articles or a sample copy.

    Please use American spelling style consistently throughout your manuscript.

    Please use single quotation marks, except where 'a quotation is "within" a quotation'. Please note that long quotations should be indented without quotation marks.


    Font: Times New Roman, 12 point, double-line spaced. Use margins of at least 2.5 cm (or 1 inch).


    If your article contains special characters, accents, or diacritics and you are preparing your manuscript in Microsoft Word, we recommend the following procedure:


    For European accents, Greek, Hebrew, or Cyrillic letters, or phonetic symbols: choose Times New Roman font from the dropdown menu in the “Insert symbol” window and insert the character you require.

    For Asian languages such as Sanskrit, Korean, Chinese, or Japanese: choose Arial Unicode font from the dropdown menu in the Insert symbol” window and insert the character you require.


    Title: Use bold for your article title, with an initial capital letter for any proper nouns.


    Abstract: Indicate the abstract paragraph with a heading or by reducing the font size. Check whether the journal requires a structured abstract or graphical abstract by reading the Instructions for Authors. The Instructions for Authors may also give word limits for your abstract.


    Keywords: Please provide keywords to help readers find your article. If the Instructions for Authors do not give a number of keywords to provide, please give five or six. Advice on selecting suitable keywords is available as follows;

    When you submit your article you’ll need to include keywords. These will be used to index your article on on search engines such as Google ScholarTM. These keywords will help others find your article quickly and accurately, so think of them as the labels for your article. What’s more, a strong correlation exists between online hits and subsequent citations for journal articles.

    But how do you choose your keywords? Think about how you search for articles, and what words or phrases you put in. Then think about your own article, and what keywords are most relevant to the focus of your work. Once you’ve drawn up a shortlist, try searching with them, to ensure the results fit with your article and so you can see how useful they would be to others.

    Narrow down your keywords to ensure they are as accurate as possible, and then ensure you also include them in your title and abstract (as some search engines only index these), whilst still making it readable.


    Headings: Please indicate the level of the section headings in your article:

    1. First-level headings (e.g. Introduction, Conclusion) should be in bold, with an initial capital letter for any proper nouns.

    2. Second-level headings should be in bold italics, with an initial capital letter for any proper nouns.

    3. Third-level headings should be in italics, with an initial capital letter for any proper nouns.

    4. Fourth-level headings should be in bold italics, at the beginning of a paragraph. The text follows immediately after a full stop (full point) or other punctuation mark.

    5. Fifth-level headings should be in italics, at the beginning of a paragraph. The text follows immediately after a full stop (full point) or other punctuation mark.


    Tables and figures: Indicate in the text where the tables and figures should appear, for example by inserting [Table 1 near here]. The actual tables should be supplied either at the end of the text or in a separate file. The actual figures should be supplied as separate files. The journal Editor’s preference will be detailed in the Instructions for Authors or in the guidance on the submission system. Ensure you have permission to use any tables or figures you are reproducing from another source.


    Running heads and received dates are not required when submitting a manuscript for review; they will be added during the production process.


    Spelling and punctuation: Each journal will have a preference for spelling and punctuation, which is detailed in the Instructions for Authors. Please ensure whichever spelling and punctuation style you use is applied consistently.


    Formatting and templates

    Papers should be submitted in Word. Figures should be saved separately from the text. To assist you in preparing your paper, we provide formatting templates.

    Word templates are available for this journal. Please save the template to your hard drive, ready for use.

    Checklist: what to include

    1. Author details. Please include all authors’ full names, affiliations, postal addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses on the title page. Where available, please also include ORCID identifiers and social media handles (Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn). One author will need to be identified as the corresponding author, with their email address normally displayed in the article PDF (depending on the journal) and the online article. Authors’ affiliations are the affiliations where the research was conducted. If any of the named co-authors moves affiliation during the peer-review process, the new affiliation can be given as a footnote. Please note that no changes to affiliation can be made after your paper is accepted.

    2. A non-structured abstract of more than 100 and no more than 200 words.

    3. You can opt to include a video abstract with your article.

    4. 5 to 6 keywords. Read making your article more discoverable, including information on choosing a title and search engine optimization.

    5. Funding details. Please supply all details required by your funding and grant-awarding bodies as follows:

    For single agency grants: This work was supported by the[Funding Agency] under Grant [number xxxx].

    For multiple agency grants: This work was supported by the [funding Agency 1]; under Grant [number xxxx]; [Funding Agency 2] under Grant [number xxxx]; and [Funding Agency 3] under Grant [number xxxx].

    6. Disclosure statement. This is to acknowledge any financial interest or benefit that has arisen from the direct applications of your research.

    7. Supplemental online material. Supplemental material can be a video, dataset, fileset, sound file or anything which supports (and is pertinent to) your paper.

    8. Figures. Figures should be high quality (1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale and 300 dpi for color, at the correct size). Figures should be saved as TIFF, PostScript or EPS files.

    9. Tables. Tables should present new information rather than duplicating what is in the text. Readers should be able to interpret the table without reference to the text. Please supply editable files.

    10. Equations. If you are submitting your manuscript as a Word document, please ensure that equations are editable.

    11. Units. Please use SI units (non-italicized).


    Using third-party material in your paper

    You must obtain the necessary permission to reuse third-party material in your article. The use of short extracts of text and some other types of material is usually permitted, on a limited basis, for the purposes of criticism and review without securing formal permission. If you wish to include any material in your paper for which you do not hold copyright, and which is not covered by this informal agreement, you will need to obtain written permission from the copyright owner prior to submission.


    Submitting your paper

Please note that International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development uses Crossref™ to screen papers for unoriginal material. By submitting your paper to International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development you are agreeing to originality checks during the peer-review and production processes.

    On acceptance, we recommend that you keep a copy of your Accepted Manuscript.


    Publication charges

    There are no submission fees or page charges for this journal.

    Color figures will be reproduced in color in your online article free of charge. If it is necessary for the figures to be reproduced in color in the print version, a charge will apply.
